Hungarian Goulash with Hungarian Paprika Asta 180

Ingredients:

  • 500 g beef (preferably chuck, cubed)
  • 2 onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons sweet Hungarian paprika Asta 180
  • 2 tablespoons oil or lard
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 750 ml beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 potatoes (cubed)
  • A little fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Sauteing the onions and meat: Heat the oil or lard in a pot and add the onions. Saute until golden, then add the beef. Sear the meat on all sides to get a nice color.

  2. Adding spices: Once the meat is browned, add the crushed garlic, sweet Hungarian paprika Asta 180, and cumin. Stir well to evenly coat the meat with the spices.

  3. Vegetables and broth: Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, and green pepper. Briefly sauté, then pour in the beef broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the goulash to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 1.5–2 hours until the meat is tender.

  4. Potatoes: After about an hour of cooking, add the cubed potatoes to the goulash. Cook for another 30–40 minutes until the potatoes are soft.

  5. Serving: Serve the goulash hot, garnished with fresh parsley. It can be served with fresh bread or traditionally with dumplings.

Tips:

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of chili or hot paprika to the goulash.
  • Sweet Hungarian paprika Asta 180 gives the goulash its authentic color and mild flavor, making it ideal for this recipe.
