Description. It has a straight, hollow, finely grooved, reddish stem more than 1 m tall with large 2-3 times feathery leaves and greenish-white flowers in abundant perianths. Fruits are ovoid double-skinned brownish in colour. It flowers from June to August. It is honey-bearing.
Occurrence.
Collecting: collect the root and rhizome, possibly also the inflorescence, young leaves, flowers, fruits. The roots are carefully dug up in the second or third year of growth (later woody), dried in bundles (preferably with part of the stem, which is then cut off) at a temperature of up to 35 degrees Celsius. Store well sealed and protect from moisture and insects. The plants from which the root is to be harvested must not be left to mature into seed. It has a spicy smell and a bitter taste.
Caution: fresh root and fresh stem juice cause rashes in sun allergy sufferers (effect of furocoumarins). Do not confuse with Angelica sylvestris L. and other myrrh-forming plants (usually smaller). Some of them are poisonous!
